Middle East: Sports Coaching

Avant has workers serving in a Middle Eastern country that has historically been closed to the gospel and resistant to outside influence. The population adheres, at least nominally, to the state religion and its moral framework. Familial, societal, and governmental pressures make it difficult and costly for those who choose to follow Jesus.

However, the country’s leadership has introduced new initiatives to diversify the economy, creating greater openness to Western investors and professionals. As a result, our workers are witnessing subtle cultural shifts, particularly in areas such as sports and entertainment, where Western influence is becoming increasingly accepted.

To live and serve in the country long term, our workers must secure legitimate employment that provides residency and work visas. While many positions are available, most would leave little time or flexibility for meaningful gospel ministry. Instead, they are pursuing work that not only satisfies visa requirements but also creates a natural platform for building relationships. Their desire is for their faith to be visibly lived out as they invest intentionally in people’s lives and reflect the light of Christ through everyday interactions.

For this reason, our workers are launching a personal training and sports coaching business offering both online and in-person training. With experience and skill in athletics and coaching, they are well positioned to serve families and young athletes. The role of sports coach will provide an immediate and respected platform—one that builds trust, reduces barriers, and fosters ongoing relationships. Over time, this business also has the potential to grow, creating additional opportunities for other workers or local believers with similar skills.

Avant is raising funds to help establish this business. The project will cover startup expenses such as legal fees, office rental, business software, advertising, and other government-related costs associated with work permits and residency visas.

Through this business, our workers will gain a credible, sustainable platform that both serves the community and supports long-term ministry presence. It will provide stability, meaningful engagement with families and youth, and expanded opportunities to build relationships and share the hope of Christ.
